Overview
The European Environment Agency publishes modelled urban heat island data for 100 European cities at 100 m resolution. The data come from the UrbClim urban climate model, produced by VITO for the Copernicus Climate Change Service, and show how much warmer each part of a city is than its rural surroundings in summer.
Key features
- 100 m resolution summer urban heat island intensity for 100 cities
- Derived from land use, soil sealing, vegetation, wind and solar radiation
- Free to download and usable in GIS, or through EEA map services
- Used in the EEA’s Urban Adaptation Map Viewer
Who it’s for
Planners and analysts identifying heat hotspots in European cities. The Urban Adaptation Map Viewer on Climate-ADAPT is marked as legacy, so use the underlying EEA datasets for new work.
